About the Publication
The publication Not Your Typical Persian Girl, with the same title as the current exhibition at Fotografiska, combines artistic work, archival material, and research, tracing feminist movements from 1850 to today. Structured through thematic chapters, it weaves together historical context, interviews, and visual material, connecting past and present through both art and lived experience. The second edition expands the first with a broader visual archive and spans 250 pages. Published in English and Farsi, it brings together voices from women and non-binary individuals in Iran and the diaspora.
About the artists
Farahmand and Hagberg are known for their multidisciplinary approach, working across performance, photographic storytelling, and installation, grounded in long-term artistic research on women’s history in Iran. They are currently presenting Not a Typical Persian Girl as part of the Emerging Artists program at Fotografiska.

Viktigt att veta
Fotografiska is housed in Stockholm’s Royal Customs House (“Kungl. Tullhuset”) at Stadsgårdshamnen 22.
Google Maps takes can sometimes send you the wrong way! The easiest path is to take the temporary steps down from Slussen T-Line Station (Red or Green Line) then follow the temporary pathway along the waterfront, following signs for Fotografiska.
Unfortunately, there is currently no parking at Fotografiska due to city construction. However, there are good cycling routes to the museum and we have plenty of cycle racks right outside the entrance.
Note that the Söderberg steps are no longer in operation. If you are coming from Katarinavägen, please go via Slussen or take Folkungagatan to the waterfront.
